Service Overview

The Indian Information Service (IIS) has been entrusted to look after the information, publicity and media needs of the country. Accordingly, they perform the following tasks:

  • Dissemination of information on Central Government policies, programmes and activities to the people

Over the past 50 years, this service has diversified its area of responsibilities, which necessitated structural changes in the Cadre and additions to the strength of posts in Group ‘A’ of the Service.

With the staggering pace at which technology, communications and society are evolving today, the service continues to redefine itself and rise up to new challenges of the new age.
